David Joseph Powell

David Joseph Powell, 70, of Westminster, died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the University of Maryland Medical Center.  Born April 20, 1947 in Sayre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph John Powell and Alberta E. Bukas Powell.  He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jacalyn Lewis Powell.

Before retiring, he was a teacher for 29 years at East Middle School.  He loved the outdoors and hiking at Hashawha and on the Appalachian Trail.  He was a dedicated percussionist with the Sounds of Spirit music group at the Samara Healing & Retreat Center in Taneytown.  He was also an avid cyclist.  David served in the Air Force and is a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Davalyn Powell of Madison, WI and his sisters Roberta Mason and husband Jack of Severna Park, Jean Marie Hasey of Boardman, OH, Elaine Price and husband Randy of Greer, SC and brother Glenn Powell and wife Suzi of White Stone, VA.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date in the spring.
