Edgar "Woody" W Kocher

Edgar W. “Woody” Kocher, 50, of Westminster, passed away peacefully at the Dove House on Monday, June 6, 2016 surrounded in love by his family.  Born May 23, 1966 in Dunoon, Scotland, he was the son of the late Jill Dawn Kocher and Edgar W. Kocher.  Beloved husband to Barbara Kocher.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son Joshua M. Kocher and wife Sarah, daughters Ashleigh F. Kocher and Olivia D. Kocher, sisters Ann Saldana-Chavez and Susan Gilmartin, several nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends.Woody enjoyed spending time with his family, family vacations and traditions, and cheering for his daughter in track and field and cross country.  He had a contagious smile, infectious laugh and the gift of bringing folks together. He was full of wit and vivacity and his sense of humor was larger than life.

Off-roading in his Jeep, socializing with friends, building raging bonfires, and cruising around town with “Chunkz”, his Olde English Bulldogge were a few of his pastimes.  He loved to cook and experimented with original recipes.  He enjoyed rebuilding Jeeps and trucks.  His selflessness in helping others and enthusiasm working with kids, lead to the founding of the Westminster Track and Field/Cross Country program for youth.  He played an active role in coaching, supporting, and mentoring numerous athletes from the “WolfPack” as well as athletes from partnering clubs.  He also previously coached girls’ basketball for the Westminster Basketball Association.

He was previously employed with the Social Security Administration, and served in the Air Force. 

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 3 p.m. at St. Benjamin’s Lutheran Church, 700 Kriders Cemetery Rd., Westminster, MD 21158.  All who had the pleasure of knowing Woody are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, contributions payable to College America for Ashleigh and Olivia can be mailed to Darrell Financial Services, 2200 Baltimore Boulevard, Finksburg, MD 21048 or a memorial gift in Woody’s honor may be sent to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
