Elinore Jameson Deakyne

November 18, 1920 ~ November 29, 2016 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Elinore Jameson Deakyne, 96, of Westminster, Maryland, died November 29, 2016 at Carroll Lutheran Village.  Born on November 18, 1920 in Parlin, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late William Penn and Sara Warren Jameson.  She was the wife of the late George Hall Deakyne who died on February 11, 2004.

Elinore grew up in Charles County, Maryland and attended Western Maryland College and Woods Business School.  She was an accountant at the United States Naval Powder Factory in Indian Head, Maryland when she volunteered for military service during World War II.  Elinore proudly served in the Women’s Army Corps in a variety of positions.  She assisted with basic training, recruited throughout the south, was an administrative officer at Camp Blanding in Florida and traveled cross country with the USO Back the Attack tour selling war bonds while Bob Hope, Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland entertained.  While in the Army, she contracted tuberculosis and spent two years in V.A. hospitals recovering.

Elinore’s family was her life and she volunteered and worked in her children’s schools as they grew up.  She especially enjoyed her years at John Dickinson High School in Wilmington, Delaware where she served as the Learning Center coordinator.

Elinore and her husband retired to Milford, Delaware where they spent many happy years.  After his passing, she moved to Carroll Lutheran Village where she enjoyed the loving community of residents and staff.  Elinore participated in many church activities and social groups in retirement and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

She is survived by daughters Susanne D. Snyder of Newark, Delaware and Jacqueline D. Cowan (Bruce) of Westminster, Maryland, grandchildren Brett D. Cowan (Jill), Erin S. Kozlowski (Mark),  Jameson C. Kisling (Matthew), Ryan L. Snyder and step-grandson Jonathan W. Shearin (Elizabeth) and great-grandchildren Delaney and Greyson Cowan and Ava and Anya Kozlowski.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by sister Sara Louise Highby, brother William Penn Jameson Jr., son-in-law Donald F. Snyder and step-daughter Diane D. Shearin.

Memorial services will be held Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11 A.M. at Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, MD 21158, with Chaplain Jimmie L. Schwartz officiating.   Friends may call at Krug Chapel one hour prior to services.   Inurnment will be private.
