Harry Arbaugh Obituary

Harry L. Arbaugh, 87, of Westminster, died Friday, January 18, 2019 at Carroll Hospital Center.  Born on November 23, 1931 in Cranberry, he was the son of the late Ralph William Arbaugh and Daisy May Stimax Arbaugh.  He is survived by his loving wife, Jean E. Shorb Arbaugh, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 24, 2018.

He retired from United Insurance Company after 42 years as an insurance agent and then worked for the Carroll Area Transit System (CATS) for 17 years.

He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.  He was a life member of North Carroll Rod and Gun Club and the Westminster Moose Lodge #1381.  He was a member of the Door to Virtue Masonic Lodge #46; the Scottish Rite as a 32nd Degree Mason; the Boumi Temple; the Western Maryland Shrine Club and the Bee Hive Club.

In his early years, he was Vice President of the Carroll County Life Underwriters and was a past president of the Westminster Jaycees.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing and hunting.

Besides his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law Steve and Linda Arbaugh of Owings Mills; son and daughter-in-law Bob and Kim Arbaugh of New Windsor and step-son and daughter-in-law Cary and Jill Myers of Westminster; grandchildren Sarah and Jamie Ryan; Matthew and Keli Arbaugh; Darrin Arbaugh and Cheryl Williams; Kristin and Tyer Athey; Madison, Christian and Seth Myers; great-grandchildren Landon, Emerson and Cameron Ryan; Brayden and Emma Rose Arbaugh and Callie Anne Athey.  He is also survived by brothers John D. and William L. Arbaugh, of Westminster; sisters, Patricia A. Combs of TN and Margaret L. Nikirk of TX, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by brothers and sisters Ralph A., Frances E. and Robert “Archie” Arbaugh, Betty J. Haage and Shirley M. Snyder. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St, Westminster, MD.  Door to Virtue Masonic Lodge #46 AF & AM will conduct a memorial service Tuesday evening at 8 pm at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 11 am at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3184 Church Street, Manchester, MD 21102, with his pastor Rev. Charles Marshall officiating.   Interment will follow at New Lutheran Church Cemetery.
