Helen LaRue Flater

Helen LaRue Flater, 91, of Westminster, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016. Born on August 20, 1925, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late William D. High and Ada Coppersmith. She was the wife of the late Robert Nelson Flater, Sr.

Helen retired from Safeway in Westminster after 23 years working in their meat department as a meat wrapper. After retirement, she moved to Ft. Myers, Florida to be with her son and his family and to soak up the sun. She then moved back to Maryland 8 years ago to live with her son and daughter-in-law here in Westminster. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the Westminster Senior Center and doing crossword puzzles and word searches. In the evenings, she enjoyed watching Discovery and History Channel, to occupy her time. She also took pleasure in flower gardens and bird watching and loved to dress to the nines everyday and especially to go out to eat with family and friends.

She is survived by sons, William Edward Kehoe and wife Lillian of Florida and Robert Nelson Flater, Jr. and wife Beverly of Westminster, grandchildren, Sherry Brown, Travis Kehoe, Lauren Flater, Jamie Marston, Jessica Paik and sister, Mary Wright and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be private.
