Henry Steven Lysy, Sr.

Henry Steven Lysy, Sr., 68, of New Windsor, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Carroll Hospital Center. Born March 23, 1949 in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late Mary Borozna Lysy and Henry Lysy. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sue Lysy.

Henry served proudly in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a Plank Owner for the USCGC Morgenthau and served in Vietnam. He later graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. Prior to retirement he worked for the State of Maryland as a Dietary Correctional Supervisor at the Central Laundry Facility in Sykesville.

Henry held many offices for the Westminster Optimist Club and proudly ran the Optimist Fishing Rodeo for more than 30 years. He served on the board at the Carroll County Farm Museum and also for the Carroll County Recreation and Parks. He was a member of the Master Gardeners and enjoyed growing his famous “Grandpa Henry” Heirloom tomatoes and making and selling gourd creations at the Famers Market.  

Besides his wife and two sisters, Barbara and Dot, he is survived by three children, Henry Steven Lysy, Jr. and wife Janine of Key West, FL; Chris Lysy and wife Jen Craig of Cary, NC; and Kate Wadsley and husband Brian of Sykesville;  and three grandchildren, Mady Craig-Lysy,  Ben and Matt Wadsley. Henry especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

Private inurnment will be held at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.
