John "Jack" E Shanahan

February 1, 1929 ~ November 9, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

John E. “Jack” Shanahan, 88, of Catonsville, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at his daughter and son-in-law’s home in Sykesville, surrounded by loving family.  Born Feb. 1, 1929 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edwin P. Shanahan and Catherine Nolan Shanahan.  Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lillian A. Shanahan. 

Before retiring he worked in Industrial Safety Sales.  He graduated from Poly in 1948, where he played baseball and was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles. He was a lifetime Orioles and sports fan.

He is also survived by 3 children, Kathleen T. Cooper and husband Bob of Centreville; Colleen M. Manasen of Catonsville; Eileen A. Overfelt and husband Walter of Sykesville; son-in-law Greg Bowers of Davidsonville; 6 grandchildren, Amber Watson and husband Rob, Krystal Cooper, Melissa Cooper, Justin Overfelt and wife Michelle, Nicholas Overfelt and Briana Chaney, 4 great-grandchildren, Kallena Kemp, Robbie Watson, Nathan Watson and Lily Watson.

He was predeceased by two children, John E. Shanahan, Jr. and Maureen R. Bowers.

Prayer services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, with Deacon Mike Dvorak officiating.  Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
