Rev. Theodore Lawson

Rev. Theodore “Ted” Lawson, 82, of Westminster, died Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center after a long illness. Born on April 28, 1934 in Springfield, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Alexander Lawson and Helen Peteroski Lawson. He was the husband of Rita A. Lawson, his wife of 56 years.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, during the Korean Conflict. Ted was a graduate of Bloomfield College in New Jersey and graduated from Princeton Seminary. He went on to get a Masters Degree in Pastoral Counseling. He was a Presbyterian Pastor for 34 years and served at Stillwater and Marksboro Churches in Stillwater, New Jersey and Warren Point Presbyterian Church in Fairlawn, New Jersey.  He then was called to Park United Presbyterian and Camp Run United Presbyterian in Zelienople, PA (a yoked parish)for almost 20 years. He retired in 1997 and moved with his wife to Westminster, Maryland to be near his family.

Ted enjoyed swimming, reading historical and religious literature and summer vacations at Chautauqua Lake in upstate New York. Ted and Rita enjoyed traveling both in the U.S. and Europe. He was active in his Presbytery, serving on numerous committees. He belonged to the Lions Club in Zelienople where he became President of the organization.  He was a member the Rotary Club in Fair Lawn, New Jersey.

Besides his wife, he is survived by daughter Heidi A. Berman and husband Edmond of Westminster and a son Mark A. Lawson and wife Carmen of Germany.  He is also survived by 6 grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, with Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz and Rev. Matthew Glasgow officiating. Private interment will be held at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Lutheran Village Resident Assistance Fund or First Presbyterian Church in Westminster.
