I had the blessing of giving Thomas Holy Communion Saturday April 8th. This would be the last time he received the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. When I approached Thomas it looked as though he was sleeping. I gently put my hand on his head and said "Thomas, it's Father David. I have come to bring you Communion." At that moment he opened his eyes wide trying to lift his head and gave the most beautiful smile. There was joy in his eyes because he knew what he was about to partake of. He received then closed his eyes. Puting my hand gently on his head I prayed that God would forgive him all the sins he had committed in this life voluntarily and involuntary, in word or deed. Afterwards I anointed him one last time with the sacrament of Holy Unction. I did not know Thomas but the expression I witnessed on his face that day revealed to me what was in his soul which I could only recognize as love for our Lord Jesus Christ. Christos Anesti! May your memory be eternal our ever memorable brother worthy of blessedness.
