Ervan Hare Obituary

Ervan William Hare, age 73, of Mount Airy, Maryland, died April 16, 2024 of kidney cancer at Dove House in Westminster. He is survived by Jo Ann Hare, his wife of 46 years.

Born in Hanover, Pennsylvania on November 30, 1950, he was the son of the late Ervan Junior Hare and Eunice Lorraine Hare of Westminster, Maryland. Ervan is survived by brother Wesley Hare as well as sister-in-law Carol Brown and brother-in-law Vincent Brown; brother-in-law Bill Sisler and sister-in-law Becky Sisler; nieces Emily Hare, Kelsey and Rachel Harter, Pam Brymer and Hannah Sisler, and nephews Kevin and Brian Hare, and Jacob Sisler.

Ervan graduated from Westminster High School in 1969, and proudly served in the United States Navy with VA-75 aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga, which included service in Vietnam. His professional career included positions at Fairchild, Comsat, and Lockheed Martin which took him to the Philippines, Hawaii, Italy, Germany and various government locations throughout the US.

In the 1980’s, he raced at 85-80 Dragway. A lifelong interest in aviation took him to the air racing nationals at Reno for 15 years, giving him many opportunities to photograph famous planes and pilots of the day. He was also a member in the Lancers Drum & Bugle Corp in Hanover, Pa for several years. During retirement he took up bass fishing and scale modeling. He also volunteered as a Pathfinder at BWI Airport for five years, helping hundreds of travelers passing through the airport.

Family members recall years of family get-togethers where Uncle Bill reigned as grill master and dinner table comedian.

His love of family and helping others did not keep him from traveling the world. By the end of his life, he had visited over 29 countries spread out over 6 continents. He loved fishing, bourbon and tried to savor as many beers of the world as he could.
