Mrs. Alyce Bernal Herrera passed on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster, Maryland. Alyce was born on August 2, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas, and was the daughter of the late Lino Bernal and Angie Bottello. She was the loving wife of 59 years to Alfred Herrera of Westminster, Maryland.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children and their spouses Cynthia Herrera and Jonathan Shorts of Columbus, Ohio; Elizabeth and Steven Horn of Westminster, Maryland; and, Alfred Lee Herrera and Maria Cristina Rivero of Urbana, Maryland; grandchildren Ethan Horn and spouse Bethan McGarry; Madison Feldcamp and spouse Josh; Evan Horn; Ryan Shorts and Austin Herrera; and sisters Audi Bernal of Bradenton, Florida; and, Rene Frankson and spouse Greg of Katy, Texas.
A native Texan, Alyce found a second home with her friends and neighbors in Augusta, Saint Simons Island, and Brunswick, Georgia. She saw the world, visited many foreign countries, and made friends everywhere she went. She lived in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, for 5 years.
She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved America and her family, friends, and cats. She especially loved celebrating holidays, and was known for her hand made Christmas ornaments.
The family would also like to extend its most sincere appreciation and gratitude for the love and care shown to Alyce by the outstanding staffs of Carroll Hospice and Carroll Lutheran Village during her recent illness. A celebration of Alyce’s life will be held at a later date.
