Evelyn Shirley Abbott

Evelyn Shirley Abbott, 88, of Taneytown, died Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Carroll Hospital Center. Born October 11, 1929 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Marjorie Worthington Raver. She was the wife of the late Gilbert G. Abbott who died April 21, 1985.

Before retiring, Evelyn worked for the Maryland Society for Accountants. She was a member of the Lehigh Riding Club, and Mayberry Hounds. She also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church thrift shop.

She is survived by 5 children; Judy Baile of Westminster, Beverly Abbott of Taneytown, Garafiela Sandusky and husband Jim of Lutherville, Gil Abbott and wife Lucille of Taneytown, and Melanie Abbott of Taneytown. 3 grandchildren, Jaime Baile of Westminster, Luke Sandusky of Steamboat Springs, CO., and Sarah Sandusky Quinn and husband Ricky of North Platt, NE., and 2 great-grandchildren Keegan and Reid Quinn.

She was also predeceased by a granddaughter Kimberly Baile, son-in-law Ed Baile, and 4 siblings Doris Rhoten, Betty Walton, Claire Ohler, and Norman “Buddy” Raver.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 254 East Main St., Westminster, MD. 21157, with Deacon Charles Barnhart officiating. Private Interment will be at Sandymount Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Red Cross.
