Ilse Sawyers, 91, of New Windsor, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Carroll Lutheran Village. Born Oct. 31, 1926 in Frankfurt, Germany she was the daughter of the late Jakob and Maria Foller. She was the wife of the late Shelby “Sarge” Sawyers, who died in 1999.
She met her husband while he was stationed in the army in Germany. They married and eventually returned to the United States in the 1950’s. She was most proud of her work as a certified nursing assistant due to her passion for helping others. She spent part of her career as a CNA at Carroll Lutheran Village where she often sat with others when it was their time to cross over, letting them know they were loved and it was okay to go. Upon retirement she became a greeter at Walmart and, again, loved meeting and helping people. She enjoyed the simpler things in life like spending time with family, a heartfelt conversation, and eating a good meal. She never let life get in the way of living and spent her entire time here on earth embracing every new day with an excitement and enthusiasm rivaled by no other.
She is survived by children and spouses, Rosemarie Diehl (Larry) of Big Cove Tannery, PA; Ursula DeLong (John) of Greenwich, NY; Barbara Lewis of Shelton, WA; and Shelby W. Sawyers (Julie) of New Windsor; a son-in-law Toby East, a sister Marianna, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter Thelma East.
