John Francis Valliant

September 15, 1933 ~ May 22, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

John Francis Valliant, 83, of Leakey, Texas, formerly of Westminster, died Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Dove House.  Born Sept. 15, 1933 in Baltimore he was the son of the late Stephen Clifton Valliant and Helen Marie Wilson Valliant.  He was predeceased by his wife, Bernadine Valliant on Jan. 21, 1975.

He was honorably discharged from the Army on June 21, 1956 with rank of Pvt-1.  He was awarded the OCC Med GER and National Defense Service Medals. 

He enjoyed going to Pimlico and Laurel and was an avid duck pin bowler when he was younger.  He worked many years for Schmidt’s Baking Co. in Baltimore and later became a house painter.  He was a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 1562 in Gettysburg.

He is survived by four children; Sharon Wiles and husband Jim of Westminster, Valerie Jorda and husband Scott of Westminster, Alexis Valliant of West Virginia and John Valliant, Jr. of West Virginia, a brother Cliff Valliant of Ellicott City, a sister Helen Duncan of Pasadena.  Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to John's Maryland family, John had a large family by Grace in Texas. Brad and Angela Downum were Blessed enough to share their home and family with John for the last 9 years. John leaves them as well as their son Scott, wife Crystal, grandchildren Micheal, Robert James, and Lucy Downum, Eric Downum and daughters Rhiley and Rourie Downum. Also he leaves Kelyn, Tegan and Cuatro Gass, Jacey, Ryan Vasquez and numerous others that knew the first thing to do at Grandma Angie's was to say hello to Mr. John. He also had a special friend Dee Dee Wally. All these and numerous friends will miss him dearly but are better for knowing him.

He was predeceased by a son Scott Valliant, brothers William, Joseph and Stephen Thomas Valliant.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s (Leister’s) Church Cemetery with Rev. Art Monroe officiating. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
