Joseph Noll, 91, a resident of Carroll Lutheran Village, died Monday, October 17, 2011 at Carroll Lutheran Village. Born Aug. 23, 1920 in Baltimore he was the son of the late Katrina Kiefer Noll and George Noll. He was the husband of 65 years to Betty Roberts Noll.
Joe was a talented athlete but passed over athletic scholarship opportunities to serve his country in the Marine Corp. A Marine through and through; and as such, he was decorated for his valor during World War II. He fought in many pivotal battles in the Pacific Campaign, including Iwo Jima, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Our country will forever owe a debt to his service.
After the war, Joe settled down with Betty and started a family in their hometown of Baltimore. He learned drafting, construction, and carpentry, and eventually founded Noll Construction where he built homes in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. He passed down his skill for carpentry to his sons and helped those in need through Habitat for Humanity. As a husband, father, grandfather and great-grand father he will be most remembered for his compassion, patience and ability to forgive. Through good times and bad he stood as the foundation from which his family was built.
On his 90th birthday, surrounded by his vast network of family and friends, Joe was presented the Marine Corp dress blue uniform he always wanted. He will be wearing those dress blues, surrounded by the same family and friends, when his body is interred. Always faithful. Forever missed.
Besides his wife he is survived by daughter and son-in-law Bylle and John McCulley of Jacksonville, OR, sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Carna Noll of Forest Hill, David and Cindy Noll of Spokane, WA and Gerald and Margaret Noll of Baltimore; a brother Jacob Noll and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
