Lester Emory Carlson, 70, returned to his heavenly home on June 7, 2017 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Les was born in Hanover, PA on September 24, 1946 to Aleatha Arbaugh Carlson of Westminster, MD and the late Melvin O. Carlson. Les is survived by his wife, Gail; his daughter and son-in-law Gretchen and Robert Carpenter of Sparks, MD and daughter Jocelyn Carlson of Woodbridge, VA; his grandchildren Carleigh, Elleigh, and Raegan Fisher and Ali and Megan Carpenter; his sister and brother-in law, Cookie and Dick Larrick; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandy and Wilbur Wright; nieces and nephews Eric, Trisha, Kathy, Kelly, June, Rachel, Kati, Jefry, and Jerry. He is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Melvin O. Carlson Jr. and Diane.

He was a graduate of Westminster High School (Class of 1964) and Western Maryland College (Class of 1968) where he participated in the ROTC program. After graduation, he was commissioned into the Army where he served to the rank of 1st Lieutenant with the 3rd Infantry Division stationed in Wurzburg, Germany. Upon return he attended the University of Baltimore School of Law and then practiced with the law offices of both Stephen B. Bourexis and Ralph G. Hoffman in Westminster. In 1981, he and his wife moved to Manassas, VA to own and operate a training and distribution center for Tupperware Home Parties. Les and Gail returned to Westminster in 2001 to be closer to family and friends and retired from Tupperware in 2010. Les was an active member at New Hope Fellowship Church where he joyfully served in roles of leadership.
