                                                                  MARY LOU BUCK OBITUARY

Daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, wife, stepmother, and friend is how she liked to define herself. Born in Williamsport, PA, on November 23, 1946, she was the daughter of John and Leah Buck formerly of Montoursville, PA. She graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1964 where she was a member of the high school band, served as Worthy Adviser with the Rainbow Girls, and marched with the Champion Rainbow Girls Drill Team, the Lockettes. Mary Lou graduated from Lock Haven University in 1968. Upon graduation from college, she taught elementary school while earning her Master’s Degree in Education. Shortly thereafter, she transitioned into retail Human Resources Management with Strawbridge & Clothier in Philadelphia eventually spending 13 years with Macy’s Department stores. From there she moved into Health Care Human Resources management working at Stella Maris in Timonium, MD, and Good Samaritan Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Mary Lou retired after 11 years as Manager of Employment Services at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. She experienced many successes and citations in her professional life and was proud to be a founding member of the Carroll County Chapter of SHRM (Society for Human Resources Management).

Mary Lou relocated to Westminster in 2001 and moved into the home she shared with her companion and husband of 2 years, Clyde E. Ledford; Clyde and Mary Lou were together for 28 years. They fell in love the night they met and were together from that moment on. During the last three years of her illness, Clyde and their dog BeBe never left her side.

She loved entertaining her friends and family as well as tending to her yard and flower gardens. Mary Lou was especially fond of her many long time friends who shared her joy for life and were steadfast in their love and support these past three years. Many of these friends traveled long distances to sit by her side or stopped by for just a few minutes to hold her hand.In addition to her husband, Mary Lou is survived by a brother, John I. Buck, Jr.,wife Marie Sapol-Buck, and nieces Natalie and CoCo of Herndon, VA; and her sister, Susan Jordan of Hummelstown, PA. Also surviving is niece, Mary Hoffsmith, husband David, and their children, Hadley, Haevyn, and Harlow of Palmyra, PA; nephew, John Malcolm, wife Janet, and sons Noah and Max of Reading, VT; and a niece, Dr. Katie Malcolm and husband Jamie Steven of Seattle, WA.

Mary Lou was proud to be a step-mother and step-grandmother to her husband’s three children and nine grandchildren: Son Vaughn, wife Michelle with children Sydney, Casey, Vaughn, and Joey of Parkton, MD; daughter Rachelle and husband Dennis Rasmussen with children Alyssa and Nicholas of Essex, MD; son Joshua Kopf and wife Melissa with children Xavier, Schuyler and Hunter of Westminster, MD.

Mary Lou was very fond and close to her mother-in-law Madeline I. Ledford of Middle River, MD, as well as her brothers-in-law: Kenneth & Sandy Ledford of Middle River, MD; Larry & Glenda Ledford of Parkton, MD; Barry and Jody Ledford of Westminster, MD; and Mark and Judy Ledford of Bel Air, MD.

There will be no viewing or funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at Westminster United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date in Montoursville, PA.

The family of Mary Lou Buck (Ledford) would like to sincerely thank the many doctors, nurses, technicians, and staff of Carroll Hospital Center, the Wm. E. Kalhert Cancer Center, the University of MD Medical Center, Westminster Internal Medicine and Carroll Home Hospice who took upmost care of her. She was always overwhelmed by their skills, compassion, and sincere kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the above listed organizations.
