Robert Peterson Obituary

Robert V. Peterson, age 94, of Westminster, died March 18, 2018, at The Colestock Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Quincy Village, Quincy, PA following a brief illness.  Born October 6, 1923, in Frederick, SD, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Elizabeth A. Peterson. He was the husband of Pauline D. Peterson who died January 30, 2007after 63 years of marriage. He is survived by wife Sylvia J. Creamer whom he married May 9, 2009.

He was a 1941 graduate of Frederick High School and attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD until entering the Army in 1943, and served three years, including eleven months in Okinawa with the 74th Field Hospital. He was recalled for ten months active duty during the Korean War.

He retired from S. H. Tevis & Son, Inc. as General Manager November 1, 1983. In retirement, he was on the local board of the American Cancer Society and drove patients for treatments for many years. He also volunteered with the Red Cross and the American Heart Association. He served as Treasurer of the Timber Ridge Foundation for eight years. He was a Charter Member of the Carroll Carvers and enjoyed wood carving wild fowl; a former member of the Carroll County Choral Society; a former member of the Senior Singers; a member of Carroll Post 31 American Legion; a member of Post 467 of the VFW; a member of the Door To Virtue Lodge, AF & AM, Scottish Rite, Boumi Shrine Temple, Western MD Shrine Club, Westminster Rotary Club serving eighteen years as Secretary, and Mt. Zion Methodist Church .

In addition to his wife Sylvia J. Creamer, he is survived by Daughter and Son-in-law Peggy S. Peterson and Kenneth T. Plesser of Gilbert, SC; Son Robert L. Peterson of Castro Marim, Portugal; Son and Daughter-in-law Bruce E. and Christine J. Peterson of Greencastle, PA; Sister-in-laws Siri Peterson of Lombard, IL and Betty Muhl of Pasadena, MD; Granddaughter Stacey L. and Husband Kevin Crawford of Hagerstown, MD; Grandson Scott T. and wife Jessica Peterson of Greencastle, PA; Great Grandsons Marshall, Davis, and Griffin Lowman, and Nathan S. Peterson; Great Granddaughters Alyssa G. Peterson and Delaney B. Lowman. He was pre-deceased by brothers Dale, Lynn, Glen, Dean, and Harold, and sisters Ruth Quatier and Gertrude Fish.

The family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm on Friday March 23, 2018 at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, MD. There will be a Masonic service at 8pm.

Visitation at Carroll Lutheran Village Krug Chapel, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster MD with begin at 9:30am Saturday March 24, 2018 followed by the funeral service at 10:00am with Rev. Jimmie Schwartz, Chaplain of Carroll Lutheran Village, officiating along with Rev. Lou Piel of Mt. Zion Methodist Church.  Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Finksburg, MD following the service.
