Sandra Jane Philip went to be with the Lord on August 6, 2018 at the age of 83. She passed peacefully in the presence of her dear friend Edward Zeigler and his daughter Carol Brzezinski. Sandra was born on November 20, 1934 in Barre, Vermont and was the only child of John and Gladys Philip.
She received her bachelor’s degree from The University of New Hampshire and her master’s from Columbia University and was a pioneer in mental health recovery in Baltimore, MD for over three decades. Sandra was the Executive Director of a group home that provided integrated mental health care to many and was honored with the President’s Award in 1981 from the Mental Health Association of Baltimore.
She was an active member of the Glyndon Women’s Club. Sandra enjoyed traveling and was a gifted artist who won awards for her watercolors, including “Best In Show”, sponsored by the Maryland Federation of Women’s Clubs. Until her last days, she enjoyed playing Bridge with neighbors and friends.
Sandra is survived by Madeline, Thomas and Olivia Pollack, who she considered her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 2 to 3 P.M., with a Memorial Service at 3 P.M. at Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster, Md., with Pastor Jimmie L. Schwartz officiating.
