Waldemiro Leao de Freitas

Waldemiro Leao de Freitas, 89, of Taneytown, formerly of Bethesda, died Sunday, April 1, 2018, at his residence in Carroll Vista.  Born May 29, 1928 in Ipojuca, Pernambuco, Brazil, he was the son of the late Henrique Otavio de Freitas and Guilhermina Souza Leao de Freitas.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joelita Leao de Freitas.

He immigrated to the United States from Brazil in 1956 and worked for over 40 years as a computer analyst. He was an avid reader and selflessly gave to charitable causes throughout his life.  After retirement, he served as a volunteer at Carroll Hospital for several years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Marisa Freitas Myers and Michael Myers of Sykesville, MD; son and daughter-in-law Maury Leao DeFreitas and Bessie DeFreitas of Vienna, VA; son and daughter-in-law Marcus Leao DeFreitas and Donna DeFreitas of Chambersburg, PA; sister and brother-in-law Zelia Ferris and William Ferris; sister Cecy Regina; and grandchildren Stinson, Brayton, Kristina, Matthew, Anthony, Nicholas, Michael, Lisseth, Leah and Cole; great-grand children Christopher, Bella and Colten.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.  Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m.  For those who are unable to attend the service, all are invited to join the family at the Taneytown Clubhouse at Carroll Vista, 1 Clubhouse Drive in Taneytown, following the service.
