William (Bill) Thomas Hastings, 82, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2018 with his final days spent surrounded by family and friends. A celebration of life will be held Friday, June 1st at the Hastings home, 1712 Bachman Valley Drive, Westminster, MD from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please come casual and share your memories, pictures and stories.
Bill married Elizabeth Hastings in 1964 and they raised 5 children. His family knew him as a loving husband and father who was kind hearted and fun loving. As a teacher, athletic director and coach, Bill’s inspired and positively impacted many students and athletes through being a mentor, role model, father figure and coach. He is known as “Coach” to many Baltimore Polytechnic Institute students who shared a tribute “We are very Proud of the man that Bill was and the men and women that we have become because Bill was a great role model.” Bill made extraordinary contributions to the sport of wrestling as a coach, official, mentor, officer of the M.W.O.A and USA Wrestling Association. He was a veteran and served in the Army.
He is survived by his wife, 3 daughters, Candi, Heidi and Amy, 2 sons, Tim and Tom and grandchildren, J.T., Donnie, Nina, Meghan and Taylor and his brother John. He was preceded in death by his grandson Jack.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial contributions to go to a scholarship fund at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute Foundation to support student athletes in their education.
