Catherine Virginia "Ginny" Wetzelberger Obituary
Ginny Wetzelberger, our cherished Mom, Grandmom, sister, and friend, passed on September 6, 2024. Ginny was the heart and soul of her family, our rock, who put everyone else first. Her love for her family, who adored her beyond measure, was evident in everything she did. Ginny's kindness and compassion were matched only by her sense of humor, which she honed while raising three boys. She was a woman who knew no stranger—Ginny was easy to love and loved easily.
For 86 years, Ginny graced us with her love, laughter, and compassion. Here’s what she taught us:
Family is everything. Laughter truly is the best medicine. Marry your best friend and hold their hand every day—especially on the golf course. Sundays are for family, football, and French onion dip. Enjoy a good rum and coke now and then. Reality TV is best when saved for later. The louder the house, the more love it holds. A card for every occasion is a small gesture that means the world. Always make time for family and friends—and squeeze in those 10,000 steps a day, even if it means taking an extra lap around the block. Fish sticks are best when served on paper plates. Flowers are the earth’s way of smiling, and birds are its laughter—take time to enjoy both. Some of life’s best memories are made over a bushel of Maryland steamed crabs and a table full of laughter. Life’s simple pleasures, like potato chips, the Baltimore Ravens, and cheering on the Orioles, make everything sweeter. Playing cards with girlfriends is a treasured escape. Family first—unless it’s game day, then it’s football first. A good marriage is built on laughter, love, and knowing when to hand over the remote. In the game of life, raising boys teaches you that the best moments come from the most unexpected places… and if nothing is on fire, you’re doing a great job. Love with all your heart, and love endlessly, because love is the legacy we leave behind.
In her memory, let us honor Ginny by laughing as much as we can, loving harder, and cherishing every moment with those we hold dear. A service will be held on what would have been her 87th birthday, October 10, 2024, at 11 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Westminster. It will be immediately followed by a celebration of life at the connecting St. John's Portico. To honor Ginny's generous and kind spirit, donations can be made to BridgingLife, commonly known as the Dove House Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave, Westminster, MD.
Rest peacefully, Ginny. Your laughter, love, and lessons will live on in us forever. You will be missed more than words can say, but never forgotten.
