Charlotte Lee Dutterer Koontz, 85, of Westminster, went to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Hanover Hospital. Survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Morris Koontz. Born Sept. 19, 1932 in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Dutterer and Hilda Brothers Dutterer.
Charlotte was a graduate of Westminster High School, Class of 1949. She received her cap at South Baltimore General Hospital in nursing, but had to leave the profession because you could not be a nurse if you were married. Charlotte was a true believer in higher education and improving your life. She was extremely proud of all her children’s degrees and of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s numerous deeds and accomplishments. Charlotte loved spending family vacations at Ocean City Beach.
She worked many years in her family owned business and later as a waitress. Charlotte was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling in leagues for many years with her friend Shirley Nelson, growing grapes and making homemade wine. Charlotte was a magnificent cook and baker; making soups, pies and cakes. Having a kind heart, she would give most of the food to family, friends and others in need. Charlotte’s father was a flower grower and was well known in Maryland as one of the best, and she also knew all flower types and definitely had a green thumb. Charlotte enjoyed Big Band Dancing at Pen Mar and playing cards.
Surviving in addition to her husband Morris are children, Linda Blizzard (Jerry) of New Windsor; Dean Koontz (Carolyn) of Littlestown, PA; Gale Salter (Michael) of Westminster; and Laurie Ewin (Robert) of Frederick; 7 grandchildren Aaron Salter, Wendy Plank, Travis Blizzard, Emily Ewin, Sarah Ewin, Krystle Koontz and Jenny Koontz, 7 great-grandchildren Beth Blizzard, Alli Blizzard, Evelyn Salter, Emma Koontz, Zachary Plank, Jessica Plank and Riley Koontz.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Krider’s Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org.
