Donald Wayne Hooper, 72, of Hanover, Pa, formerly of Westminster, died Saturday, April 14, 2018, at home.
Born Nov. 17, 1945 in Hanover, Pa, he was the son of the late William David Hooper and Imogene Wilt Hooper and Raymond Eyler. He is survived by his loving wife Edie Hooper.
He graduated from Westminster High School in 1964. Before retiring he worked for Random House for 32 years. He then worked for ABC Exterminators for several years.
He was a member and past Governor of the Westminster Moose Lodge #1381. He was on the Ritual Team, Fellowship Team, and helped with blood drives and health fairs. He was also a member of the American Legion Carroll Post #31, the Littlestown Eagles and the Westminster Elks Lodge No. 2277.
He served in the Army Reserve for 26 years, retiring as First Sergeant in 1991 from the 195th Heavy Maintenance Co. in Westminster.
He enjoyed Nascar, Orioles, Ravens, dancing, steamed crabs and Miller Lite, golfing, camping, gardening, family, sitting on the front porch, and holiday dinners with friends and family.
Don was a kind and friendly person, he never met a stranger, and if you were lucky enough to become his friend you were there for life. He loved his Children and Grandchildren and was very proud of them. He was most proud of his Nephew and friend Stephen Luman who has overcome great obstacles.
Besides his wife he is survived by 6 children Bryan Griffith of Westminster; Keith Hooper of Hanover, PA; Butch Dell of Hampstead; Jim and Diane Dell of Hampstead; Pamela and Edward Johnakin of Reisterstown; Dougie Starner of Hanover, PA; one brother W. Deane Hooper and Fiancé Donna M. Huff of White Hall; one sister Betty Jane Haines of Westminster; 5 grandchildren Sarah Partin and husband David; Dallas and Dakota Dell; Jacob and Andrew Johnakin; 4 nieces and nephews Renae A. Butler, Randy D. Hooper, Gina M. Haines, and Richard L. Haines. Additional family members are Charles, Sondra and Stephen Luman of Denton. He was predeceased by his brother Kenneth E. Eyler and daughter in law Susan Dolan Griffith.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 7:15 P.M, by the Westminster Moose Lodge, followed by a Funeral Service at 7:30 P.M at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Service 254 E. Main St. Westminster on Wednesday April 18, 2018. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 P.M.
