Doris Gail Smith, 72, of Westminster, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Born on January 29, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Katie Trotter Smith and Alver Smith.
Before retiring, Doris owned and operated her own cleaning business and also worked in sales. She had a lifelong eye for treasures—always collecting old, interesting items she hoped to fix up and turn into something valuable.
She is survived by her children: Shaun Paul Merrell of Reisterstown; Moses Merrell and his wife Jacqueline of Westminster; and Heidi Spring Robertson of Hampstead. She is also survived by stepchildren Rodney, Curtis, James, and Bradley Merrell, and Pamela Chandler; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Benjamin Merrell.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at All Saints’ Cemetery in Reisterstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doris’s name to the Westminster Rescue Mission, 658 Lucabaugh Mill Rd., Westminster, MD 21157, or to the Boys and Girls Club of Carroll County, 71 E. Main St., Westminster, MD 21157.
