Dorothy Lee “Debbie” Kappes, 88, of Westminster, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Golden Crest in Hampstead, MD. Born December 28, 1937, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William Schmidt and Ruby Lee Milby Schmidt. Her loving husband of 55 years, Jerome “Jerry” K. Kappes died April 8, 2012. Her daughter Karen Kappes Feroli died August 10, 2010.
Before retiring she worked as a Medical Secretary in the office of Dr. John Steers, Sr., Dr. Donald Coker and Dr. John Steers, Jr. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering at St. John Catholic Church and School and helping out at the annual Christmas bazaar. She enjoyed family time, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and going to the beach.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy Robinson (Shawn) of Westminster; two brothers Ron Schmidt (Linda) of PA. and Mark Schmidt (Victor Jordan) of DE; two sisters Donna Mahala of PA., and Debbie Baum of FL.; three grandchildren Katelyn Graham (Bryant), Tara Martens (Kevin), Kelsey Robinson (Ricky Yakel); nine great-grandchildren Brantley, Madelyn, Austin, Dominic, McKenzie, Layla, Tykira, Blaine and Gabriel; also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe Street, Westminster, MD. 21157. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg, MD.
