It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Elizabeth May Hartsock, a.k.a. Grammy Sock, a devout Christian, 93, of Westminster, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Autumn Lake Healthcare in Manchester. Born July 20, 1931 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Harry Weckesser and Matilda Heck Weckesser. Her husband Charles Columbus Hartsock died November 30, 2006. Together, they raised a family of 2 children. Who will forever cherish her memory.
Before retiring she was a bookkeeper for the G.C. Murphy Co. She was a member of Chapelgate Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 18 years, to the little children. Elizabeth was a passionate home cookery and baker, who baked all sorts of pastries like wedding cakes, birthday cakes and pies for anybody, and she enjoyed the creative process of meal preparation and the satisfaction of sharing delicious dishes with others. Elizabeth loved children of all ages. She lavished children with affection, gifts and or fun and adventurous scavenger hunts. Elizabeth was a kind and caring person, who gave the best hugs and always had time for people.
She is survived by her 2 children Charles S. “Chuck” Hartsock and wife Kathleen of Millsboro, DE and Sharon Lynn Baker and husband Andrew T. Sr., of Westminster. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, Tammie Goff (Roger), Christopher William Hartsock, Andrew Thomas Baker, Jr., Kimberly Beth Hartsock, Timothy Adam Baker and Stephen Patrick Baker; 8 great-grandchildren, Andrew, III, Ethan, Kailei, Kaitlyn, Isabella, Lily, Kevin and Patrick and 5 great-great grandchildren. Elizabeth will be forever loved and missed by all. She was predeceased by 11 siblings.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. - 12 noon on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m., with Rev. Michael Khandjian officiating. Interment will be held at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Ellicott City.
