Frederic Slaughter Jr. Obituary

Frederic Marvin Slaughter Jr., beloved husband of 33 years to Joyce Ellen Slaughter, and devoted father to Kelly Lee Beam, died peacefully in his sleep of heart failure January 1, 2019.  Fred was the cherished grandfather of Alexandra Beam Ensor and her husband Devin, and Sterling Beam and Joe Bond.  Born in Baltimore and raised in Annapolis, Md. he was the son of Frederic Martin Slaughter Sr. and Adeline Love Peacock.  Fred served in the US Air Force and later had his own printing business, “Paper Impressions”.  He was a past Exalted Ruler at the Westminster Elks Lodge #2277 where he served on many committees including Camp Barrett, a camp in which the Elks pay for 2-week camp experiences for those children who might otherwise never get the chance to experience camp due to the costs.   Every Friday Fred made a point to have lunch with his friends Dave Kehne and Don Lipscomb.  He was an avid reader, and in particular loved authors Lee Child and John Grisham.

Fred not only enjoyed being with his family, but also enjoyed the many devoted friends of his granddaughters who shared time at his home socializing in the evenings, spending weekends in the pool, watching football games, and joining him for holidays and any special occasions where we would gather and he could surround them with love.  These wonderful special people all called him “pop-pop” because he cared and loved them as his own.  They include Paul David Stricker and his daughter Gretchen, Kevin Lady, Hillary Taylor, Kelsey Malinda and Tucker, Shelby Sies, Dan Green and Colt, Nicole Spinler and Leah Morris.

Over the years after working with Craig Taylor and his wife Charlie learning about clocks, Fred went to school and learned how to repair clocks for family and friends.  He developed a passion about clocks and went to many auctions to find the clocks that needed repair and were different and visually very pleasing to the eye. He worked with his friend Dave Kehne in the clock shop in the garage repairing clocks for many years.

Fred wanted to be remembered as he was, so he asked there not be a service.  His request was that his body be sent to the State Anatomy Board in Baltimore for research in hopes he could help someone else.

Fred loved his country, was very patriotic, and proudly displayed the flag in his yard every day.   Fred was a life member and past Exalted Ruler of the Westminster Elks Lodge #2277. From Frederic M Slaughter’s Daughter Kelly Lee Beam

I’m home in heaven dear ones

Oh so happy and bright

There is perfect joy and beauty

In this everlasting light

All the pain & grief is over

Ever restless tossing passed

I am now at peace forever

Safely home in heaven at last

Did you ever wonder I so calmly

Trod the valley of the shade?

Oh but Jesus arm to lean on

Could I have one doubt or dread

Then you must not grieve so sorely

For I love you dearly still

Try to look beyond earths shadows

Pray to trust our fathers will

There is work still waits for you

So you must not idly stand

Do it now while life remained

You shall rest in Jesus land

When that work is all completed

He will gently call you home

Oh the rapture of that meeting

Oh the joy to see you come

To a Dad that went out of his way to love unconditionally, for all the love and understanding....

I love you Frederic Slaughter and will miss you dearly.....Your Daughter Kelly Lee Beam
