Gayla C. Fulcher Obituary

Gayla C. Fulcher, 83, of Hanover, Pennsylvania and formerly of Westminster, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025. Throughout her 83 years she brought love and compassion to all who knew her.

Gayla was a 1960 graduate of Parkville Senior High School. Before retiring, Gayla worked at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and University of Maryland Medical System as an Administrative Assistant. One of her greatest accomplishments (and the one she was most proud of) was her work as the Coordinator of the Johns Hopkins Diabetes center.

Gayla’s life was defined by her deep devotion to her family, her generosity of spirit, and her ability to make everyone around her feel cared for. You felt her love through a knowing look, a deep conversation, a gift she crafted for you, and her unwavering support. She created a legacy of love and kindness that will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those fortunate enough to call her a friend.

She loved crafting, attending her grandchildren’s events, and telling a good story. She had an extensive craft room in every home she lived in, and whether it was sewing an outfit for her kids or grandkids, making homemade pasta from scratch, crafting homemade cards, or something else creative, she spread her love with adorable tangible gifts as well as with her words and warmth. Her love of politics began as a volunteer with the Kennedy campaign and continued throughout her life. Her political beliefs lead to may spirited discussions with friends, family, and an occasional innocent bystander.

She will be remembered not only for the joy she brought into everyday moments but also for the strength and resilience with which she faced the many challenges in her life.

Gayla is predeceased by her father, Jack R. Cicone, her mother, Mary C. Lusby, her sister-in-law Kathryn "Kitty" Cicone, and her loving husband, Arthur "Art" J. Fulcher. Gayla and Art had met in high school and fallen in love, but their paths had separated as so many do. They reconnected in their 60s in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, just in time to lovingly envelop Art into the Roche family before his untimely passing in 2006. She has tenderly carried a space for him in her heart over the last 20 years, and we are overjoyed to know that they are together again.

She is survived by her brother, John Cicone and wife Anne, Kim Strevig and husband Ricky, Scott Roche and wife Laura, and Brian Roche and wife Laura. She was the proud grandmother of Shelley Hall and husband Tim, Tyler Roche and wife Taylor, Megan Rusbosin and husband Andrew, Nick Roche and wife Margaret, Colin Roche, Noah Roche, and Lila Roche. She was also overjoyed to be blessed with four great-grandchildren: Gianna Roche, William Roche, Jace Roche, and Isabella Roche.

In addition to the above family, there are countless others who will mourn the loss of Gayla, as she was truly adored by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, with a service to begin at 5 p.m. to honor and celebrate Gayla’s life, at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you engage in a random act of kindness (or many!) or simply make someone smile in the way Gayla brought light to so many of our lives.
