George James Colburn Obituary

On October 27, 2024 George, 76, lost his life to the cruelty of Alzheimer’s. In the 12 year duration of this disease, he also lost the things he loved in this world - watching and playing sports, golfing, biking, ice skating, building, history, genealogy, the Sunday crossword and so much more. What he never lost was the care, respect and love of his family, friends and workmates.

Born in Parkville, Maryland into a large family, he served with pride in the Army 82nd Airborne in Vietnam from 1968-71. He always viewed that experience as the years that shaped him into a fair and honorable man.

He continued into a career with Baltimore County Public Schools lasting 43 years, maintaining existing buildings and managing construction projects. He rose through the ranks to finish as Special Projects Supervisor always wanting to be known as the problem solver. Active in his professional world, Association of School Business Officials MDDC, he served in many positions including President, 2007-8.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kathleen Sanner, a partner in work, life and love. Two amazing sons, Scott and Jeffrey Colburn gave him five grandchildren; Zachary, Joshua, Jacob, Silvija and Nikolaj by partnering with wonderful women Karen and Kelly. His surviving siblings are Don Colburn and Lisa Pelletier.

Lastly….all the creatures large and small at Kestrel’s Keep farm will hold your memory close….you built it and we came.
