George Sexton Petrie Obituary

George Sexton Petrie, 88 of Taneytown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at his home. Born in Pulaski, New York he was the son of the late Lafayette Petrie and Doris Quinn. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years Kathleen M. Petrie, who passed away on April 16, 2020.

George graduated from Pulaski Academy and Central School in 1954 and later graduated from the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University in 1958. His career started with the Sealright Corporation in Fulton, New York and he eventually moved his family to Reisterstown, MD where he worked many years at Sweetheart Cup Corporation.  He later retired from Martin Gillet & Co. in Baltimore, Maryland. George was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was patient, observant and could spot a whitetail from a mile away!

He loved to spend time in nature. George lived a faith-filled life.  He was a Eucharistic Minister, served with the Prison Ministry and served as an active member of St Joseph’s Church in Taneytown.

George is survived by his 4 children Maureen Behrs (Dave), Michele Almquist (Brett), Jim Petrie (Kerry),and Mary Davis (Trent). George had 12 grandchildren Beth (Michael), Emily (Scott), Ashley (Marc), Andrew, Lindsey, Tori, Matthew, Lauren and Ryan. He also had one great grandchild, Emma George Gladis. George was predeceased by his brother James Petrie and sisters Dorla J. Long and Betty Petrie.

 A gathering is scheduled for friends and family to celebrate the lives of both George and Kathy on March 28, 2025 from  2-4 pm at Flick’s Pub and Restaurant, Taneytown, MD.
