Gerald (Jerry) Gerwitz Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) Anthony Gerwitz peacefully passed away at the Carroll Hospice Dove House Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the age of 88 years.

Born and raised in West Valley, NY, the eighth of 10 children, Jerry often spoke of his childhood on the farm with his brothers and sisters and Ma and Pa.  After his service in the Army as a surveyor, Jerry worked at Nuclear Fuels Services before spending his career as a Systems and Piping designer and project manager at Bechtel.  Jerry and his wife of 42 years, Darlene, were able to make friends around the country as they lived in several different states as part of Jerry’s work at Bechtel.

Jerry was very involved in his church and was proud of his tartar sauce that he made for Friday night Fish Fries.  He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus and participated in many charitable activities.  Jerry was also a talented woodworker and created many one of a kind works of art.  His curiosity, sense of humor and generosity made him a friend to all and will be dearly missed but not forgotten.

He is survived by his sister Ann (Sister Mary Jane); daughters Ann (Harry Corson) Gerwitz, Kay Wright, Amy (Pat) Krause, Jill Gerwitz; step-daughter Sherene (Mike) Mathis; granddaughter Dianna (Chuck) Russell, three great grandchildren Autumn, Logan and Victoria; and former spouse Jeanne (Phinney) Gerwitz.  He was predeceased by his wife Darlene (Rasooli) Gerwitz; his brothers Richard, Howard, Cyril, Roger, Charles, and John; his sisters Gertrude and Jane; and his step-son Roger Rasooli.

A joint funeral service for Darlene (Porter) Gerwitz and husband, Gerald Gerwitz who passed away April 3, 2021, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 31, 2021, at the Saint Jude Catholic Church, 1937 Davis Highway, Mineral, VA 23117.  Due to COVID restrictions at the time of death, the funerals were postponed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carroll Hospice Dove House for the wonderful work they do.  They are a non-profit Hospice and accept everyone who needs them regardless of their financial resources.  https://www.lifebridgehealth.org/CarrollHospice/MakeAGift.aspx
