Gloria Alice Oxley, 95, of Silver Run, MD died peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.  Born September 1, 1929, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Ella Clark Dorr and John Hartley Dorr.  She was the wife of Dale Donald Oxley who died on December 29, 2012.  She moved to Carroll County from Brooklyn Park, MD and lived with her family at the Oxley farm on the Maryland/Pennsylvania state line for over 50 years.

She graduated from Baltimore’s Eastern High School in 1946.  Before retiring she worked as a library assistant in the Anne Arundel County Public Library system and later for Anne Arundel County Public Schools at Andover High School.  She enjoyed many years of good times at the farm with family and friends and cherished her close ties with Baltimore.  She loved the beautiful sunsets at the farm and delighted in watching the Orioles and Ravens with family dog Ziggy by her side. She was part of the church family at Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ.

Gloria is survived by her children, Susan (and George) Hardinger of Silver Run and Dawn Musgrave of Catonsville, and was predeceased by her infant daughter, Lisa Merle Oxley.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Corey (and Howard) Wilt, Casey Hardinger Staubs, Thomas (and Ashlee) Musgrave, and Samantha Musgrave.  She was a loving great-grandmother to Will Wilt, Simone Staubs, Emma Wilt, Michael Wilt, Alice Eccleston, Ivy Eccleston, Delilah Skrok, Cora Musgrave, Jamie Musgrave, and Beau Musgrave.  She is survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Mary Jane Dorr, nieces and nephew, Kathy Hofstetter, Kimberly Jacob, Lance Jacob and their families, and by her great-nieces, Linda Stoll, Jane Meleady and Rebecca Stoll.  She is greatly missed by her life-long friends, Vera and Ray Reiner and Margaret and David Smith, as well as her friend and caregiver, Mary Zafares.

She was predeceased by her brother, Clifford Hartley Dorr, and sister, Florence Dorr Jacob.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Gloria will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ, 2950 Old Taneytown Road, Westminster, MD 21158.  Memorial contributions in Gloria’s name may be sent to EBUCC at the address above.
