Harry Maempel Obituary

Harry C. Maempel, 54, of Westminster, beloved husband and soulmate to his wife Lisa left us way too early on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. You would be hard pressed to find a single soul who didn't instantly connect with and fall in love with Harry. His heart was huge, his smile infectious, and he had a funny humorous wit and gave the best hugs around. If you put out a hand for a shake he pulled you in for a hug.

Harry was a Local 24 Journeyman Electrician for 33 years and was a proud union man. How much he was admired by his union brothers and sisters was a testament of the love and passion he had for his trade.

Harry's only son Bradley was his pride and joy and Harry was so proud of the man he had become. Their shared passion for cooking, spices and fermenting always resulted in interesting conversation and quite possibly a meal or at least some sort of edible concoction.

Harry's passion for gardening, mulch and dirt had him explore further education where he took a several weeks course in permaculture. It was his dream to be self-sufficient and sustainable on his little piece of property better known as Maempel Meadows. Most people saw weeds and overgrown grasses but Harry always saw native plants, food sources and pollinators. His homegrown dirt and mulch could have been bagged and sold he was so famous for it. There wasn't a plant, tree or flower he couldn't grow.

Harry met Lisa after his first wife Amy passed away at a very young age. They always said Lisa must have been waiting for him. Harry was the lid to Lisa's pot. There was never just Harry and never just Lisa it was always Harry AND Lisa. One of their favorite pastimes was taking long getaways, weekend jaunts or day trips to zoos, museums, botanical gardens or a great farmers market. They always joked and told people that they planned their trips by throwing a dart at a map. January 25, 2023 Harry threw his last dart and it landed destination heaven, for now he will have to wait for Lisa to join him but until she gets there he will be chatting and loving it up with everyone who was there to catch him when he arrived.

Besides his wife, he is survived by son Bradley Maempel of Cockeysville, mother Anna Louise (Naylor) Cain of Littlestown, PA; brother David Maempel and wife Wendy of Hanover, PA.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Amy Maempel, father Harry Maempel, and step-father Danny Cain.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 12 to 3 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.  A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3 p.m. with Rev. John Morrill officiating.  A reception will be held at the VFW Post No. 467 in Westminster following the services.  Interment will be private.

Harry was able to give the gift of life by organ donation. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in his name to the American Heart Association or plant a tree in his name; it would make him smile.
