Harry Adam “Bud” Hughes, 93, of Aspers, PA died on his birthday, September 13, 2023, at home. Born, September 13, 1930, in Finksburg, he was the son of the late Harry Carroll Hughes and Elvie Maude Harry Hughes. His wife of 64 years, Rosemary Catherine Horn Hughes, died on January 21, 2016.
Before retiring he was a mechanic at Wertz Garage. He also owned and operated Hughes Bros., Inc., was a bus driver and farmer. He was a member of the Eastern States Allis Chalmers Collectors Assoc. and the Mid-Atlantic Allis Chalmers Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, restoring tractors, and passing his knowledge of mechanics and farming to others.
Survived by five children, Peggy Soper of Westminster, MD, Rose Mary “Sis” Morris and husband Donald of New Windsor, MD, J. Richard “Rick” Hughes of Thurmont, MD, Catherine Kemper and husband Donnie of Aspers, PA and David Hughes and wife Beth of Glenville, PA; three sisters, Dolly Howard of Millers, MD Betty Young of Finksburg, MD and Mary Alice Rosenberger of Westminster, MD. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six siblings, Virginia Beamer, Annie Hoff, Henry Hughes, Helen Owings, Howard Hughes and Hilda Mae Miller. He was also predeceased by two granddaughters, Juliet Christine Hughes and Jamie Lynn Hughes.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Beth Hutton officiating. Interment will be at Sandy Mount Cemetery in Finksburg.
