Helen Florence Wisniewski

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Helen Florence Wisniewski on August 25th, 2023. Helen was a cherished and dedicated grandmother, mother, wife, and a source of warmth and friendship for all fortunate enough to have known her. She departed peacefully at the age of 97, while resting at her daughter Cynthia’s home in Westminster, Maryland, where she lived for the last 35 years.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard, siblings Joseph, Walter, Frank, and Antoinette, and her grandson, Scott.

Helen was born in 1926 in her parents' Chicago, Illinois home. In the bustling city, she worked as a waitress where fate intervened, introducing her to her future devoted life partner and dance companion, Richard. From that moment on, her heart belonged solely to him. They united in marriage on August 9th,1947, and subsequently welcomed two cherished children, Cynthia and Jim, into their lives. The family enjoyed visiting relatives in Canada on the farm.  Helen took immense pride in her role as the doting grandmother of Jennifer, Kimberly, Kristen, Scott, and Meghan, along with their respective spouses. Among her greatest joys were her great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Jack, Ella, Grace, Luke, and Taylor.

A life richly lived, Helen embodied the roles of loving mother, guiding light, and an adored grandmother. An aspiring gardener, Helen’s passions included immersing herself in books, solving puzzles, and sewing anything and everything for her grandchildren. She had an extraordinary talent for weaving enchantment into the young minds of all the children she encountered. Her love of family was boundless, instilling within her children and grandchildren principles that have steadfastly guided them over many years.

A commemoration of Helen's life will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois on Saturday, September 16, 2023 commencing at 11:30AM Central Time.  In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to the Wounded Warriors Project or The Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society.
