Henry John Lichtfuss was a Carroll County Public Schools (CCPS) Supervisor, and a NCAA All-American Soccer Player.
Mr. Lichtfuss, son of John Lichtfuss, a Weaver Meister, and Elizabeth Lichtfuss was born in Baltimore City on Cooksie St. May 13, 1931. He died at the age of 92 on December 17, 2023, at his Carroll Lutheran Village (CLV) home. His parents, John and Elizabeth, immigrated to America from Austria-Hungry hoping to live the “American Dream.” And Henry and his brothers did just that.
Henry was a Teacher, Principal, and Supervisor. In retirement, Henry was a Long & Foster Realtor.
Henry was a graduate of Towson State Teachers’ College (Towson University), and Western Maryland College (McDaniel). While at Towson State and playing Center Half-Back, he was elected to the 1956 NCAA All-American Soccer Team. Henry’s Hall of Fame and Athletic Awards include: Towson University Athletic Hall of Fame, Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame, Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame, and The Carroll County Times Greatest 100 Athletes of the Century.
Mr. Lichtfuss was a Radio Repairman in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
In his community, Henry was a member of Rotary, Elks, American Legion, Wakefield Valley Golf Course, Saint John Catholic Church, and The Westminster Riding Club. He served on The Carroll County YMCA Board of Managers, The Board of Mid-Shore ARC, and The Board of Handicap Workshops in Easton. Henry was a Lineboro Volunteer Firefighter. Mr. Lichtfuss shared his life as a resident of Carroll County in a YouTube video interview.
Henry stayed active in sports after retiring playing golf, tennis, and Senior Softball. Henry played for and managed The Carroll County Senior Softball Team. He was selected to play softball at the 1997 Tucson, Arizona Senior Games on a team that won The Bronze Medal. Henry with his wife, Patricia, won the 1989 Low Gross Husband-Wife Golf Championship at Wakefield.

Besides his parents, Mr. Lichtfuss is predeceased by his brothers; John, Joseph, Ernest and granddaughter, Tressa Lichtfuss Jennings. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, a retired teacher; sons William (Patty) of Columbia and Robert (Ellen) of Westminster, 3 grandchildren Madeline of Brooklyn, NY, Kenneth of Curtis Bay, and Grace of Westminster, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and the funeral service will be at 1:00 PM at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, MD 21157. Graveside services will be at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Rd., Owings Mills, MD 21117, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 1:45 PM.
