Herbert L Brooks

Herbert L. Brooks, 81, of Taneytown, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at his residence.  Born October 27, 1941 in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Dorothy (Myers) Brooks and Herbert Samuel Brooks.

His first job was with the Brethren Service Center before enlisting in the Army with the 2^nd Armored Division at Fort Hood.  After serving in the Army he returned home and worked 21 years for Black and Decker as a machinist.  Following the closure of Black and Decker, Herbert was employed with Lehigh Cement where he retired after 15 years. His final journey was working with the ARC Carroll County during his retirement.  He found joy in spending time with family, driving his corvettes, watching classic sitcoms and listening to the rhythmic sounds of soul music.   

He is survived by children Anita “Fuzzy” Brooks Lewis (Jonathan) of Union Bridge; Herbert L. Brooks, Jr. (Lisa) of Owings Mills; Tisha Brooks Hebron (William, Jr.) of New Windsor; Joseph Brooks (Kenyatta) of Taneytown; sister Paula Brooks, grandchildren Tessa, Miranda, J.B., Jordan, Drake, Ava and Sarah and great-grandchildren Mia and Brooks and companion and former wife Ann Brooks.

He was predeceased by siblings Catherine “Kitty” Bradford and Donna Charms, former spouses Jo Ann Coates Brooks and Mary Belle Brooks.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.  Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m.  Interment will follow at Mt. Joy Cemetery.
