Ivan Newell McKee, Jr.

Ivan Newell McKee Jr. was surrounded by his family when he passed away on September 13, 2023. Ivan, “Mac” was born in Shady Grove, Mississippi on July 29, 1929, son of Angelica Darnell McKee and Ivan Newell McKee Sr., husband to Henrietta McKee, father to Deborah, Larry, Mark, Laura, and Valerie. Ivan’s abounding kindness, gentle spirit, and loving smile will be forever missed.

He had fond memories of hunting the woods of West Virginia with his good friend Skidmore, many church fellowships, and family trips to Mississippi and Florida.  Ivan was dedicated to his Christian faith and spent numerous hours studying and reading his Bible daily. From May 1947 – May 1950, Ivan served in the Army National Guard of Mississippi in the Artillery division and was stationed in Baltimore. His honorable discharge was in 1953. For many years Ivan worked as a steel worker at Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore.  Ivan then met his wife, Henrietta, “Henny” and they married on August 27, 1955.

They started their family in Dundalk and eventually bought a new house in Essex. There they raised 5 children, Deborah, Larry, Mark, Laura, and Valerie. Mac and Henny would pack up their camping gear and head to various camp sites for fun filled family vacation trips. These camping adventures would somethings include, Henny’s parents, and her brother and sister-in-law and their children. They would also make routine trips to Mississippi and Florida to visit extended family.  Ivan had wonderful memories of his vacation trips to Canada with Henny in their retirement years. He had such a strong faith in God and a strong will to live a long life. Ivan’s abounding kindness, love, and endearing twinkling smile will be forever missed, and his children will remain eternally grateful to have been blessed with such a wonderful father.

Thank you, Dad, for your devotion to our family. We pray God brings you the peace of knowing you were an ideal image of a loving father. We know you are now united with Nanny, Mom, Josh, Shane, and Valerie.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.  Funeral services will begin at 12 p.m.  Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Baltimore.
