James Pontuti Obituary

James Anthony Pontuti, 80, of Berkeley Springs, WV, formerly of Westminster, died Sunday, May 16, 2021 at home.  Born March 12, 1941 in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Anthony K. Pontuti and Louise Mikita Pontuti.

Survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosemarie Kubicza Pontuti.

Before retiring, he worked for the 3M Company.  He pioneered and developed various production processes for engineering and production and was the holder of two United States Patents for the 3M Company based in St. Paul, Minnesota.

A graduate of the class of 1959 at Austintown Fitch High School, he was elected to the 2011 Athletic Hall of Fame for football and track.

He was a member, player and letterman of Ohio University National Small College Championship football team of 1960.  This team has been honored as the best football team in the history of Ohio University Football.  He was inducted into the Ohio University Hall of Fame in 2012.  He played Quarterback in both high school and college. 

He enjoyed fishing, golf, weightlifting, traveling, crossword puzzles, the History Channel and was a sports fan.

Besides his wife, he is survived by 5 children; Marc Anthony Pontuti and wife Susan of Manchester; Leslie Ann Cecil and husband Craig of Westminster; Christen Marie Coyle and husband Bruce Jr. of Finksburg; Stacy Louise Waxter and husband Rick of Westminster; Jamie Julia Moorefield and husband Donny Jr. of Taneytown;  10 grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Kayleigh, Jackie, Alexa, Julia, Nicole, Taylor, Collin, Natalie and Brooke, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law John Stancin of Fernandina Beach FL; Steve and Kathy Kubicza of Ohio; Karen and Tim Lipnicki of Ohio.  Also survived by nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister Sandra Stancin. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster, MD.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
