James Donald Rodgers, 88, of Westminster, died on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Brinton Woods in Winfield. Born on August 26, 1933 in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Thornton William Rodgers and Carrie Frances Gelwicks Rodgers. Youngest of 5, he was predeceased by sister Rainey and brothers Bee, Bill and Joe. He was also predeceased by a daughter Michele Mirfin, son Curtis Rodgers, and grandson Derik Sipes. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, M. Dolores (Topper) Rodgers.
Donnie graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1951, and from Johns Hopkins University with an Engineering degree in 1972. Before retiring, Jim was an Electronics Engineer at Adtech, Microtel, and Adams Russell. He served in the Army Security from 1952-1955 attaining the rank of Sergeant and was stationed at Herzo Base in Germany. As a 56 year member of St. John Catholic Church, he helped run the Christmas Bazaar book stand for 30 years. He enjoyed working on his yard, especially his ornamental pond. He was a Civil War buff and enjoyed genealogy, cooking, grilling and eating crabs. His family vacations were a summer week in Canaan Valley, West Virginia, where he organized paper airplane contests and other games.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Michael A. Rodgers and wife Barbara of Westminster, Dennis T. Rodgers and wife Jeannie of Georgetown, DE., and son-in-law Charles “Chuck” Mirfin of Hanover, PA; 10 grandchildren Christy, Brett, Elizabeth, Patrick, Caroline, Meredith, Kevin, Brad, Leslie, and Ryan along with 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11:30 with military honors at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster. Private interment will be held at a later date at Meadow Branch Cemetery.
