Jim Cleaver, of Taneytown, passed away on July 5, 2024. 

Born in Baltimore to the late George and Catherine Cleaver on April 9, 1955, Jim married the love of his life, Mary (Ruth) Cleaver in 1976. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons - Joseph and wife Jessica of Bel Air, and Martin of Turners Falls, Massachusetts – and grandsons, Cavett and Hunter.

Jim leaves behind his brothers – Greg, Joe and wife Eileen, Tom and wife Kerry, and John Cleaver – and sisters-in-law – Vicki Marshall, Anna Stewart and husband Jeff, Betty Gettier, and Jane Grabowski, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 

He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Marcus Marshall and sister-in-law Trish Cleaver.

As a young man, Jim was employed as an ABC Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic before finding his calling as an ABO Certified Optician.

Throughout his retirement years, Jim found joy in spending quality time with his family and friends in the comfort of his home. He took immense pride in his role as grandfather. 

He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family will receive friends at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, on Wednesday July 10 from 3pm – 5pm. Contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to Bridging Life Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
