Jean Marie Clingan Zepp, 93, of Westminster, died Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Edenton Memory Care in Frederick. Born May 26, 1932 in Westminster, MD, she was the daughter of the late David N. Clingan and Elizabeth Stem Clingan. She was the beloved wife of the late Herschell L. Zepp.

She graduated from Westminster High School. Jean’s career spanned many decades. She often quipped that she had the most fun waitressing for her sister and brother-in-law at the Reese Inn. Later, she continued her work relationship with her older sister Dorothy, when they both worked for Paul Keppel, CPA who was a former comptroller for the Metropolitan Opera Company. Jean was a statistical typist, typing tax returns and financial statements before the time of them being computer generated. She also performed secretarial duties, payroll processing and payroll reporting functions. She retired from the former Rager, Lehman and Houck CPA firm in Westminster.

She was a lifelong member of St. John Catholic Church. Jean loved to play bingo and travel. She particularly enjoyed her two trips to Europe; one to Italy with her sister and another with her entire family to England to watch her granddaughter participate in a marble tournament. In the good old U.S., she enjoyed cross country trips with her best friend Marianne and frequent trips to Atlantic City.

She is survived by her children Christine Z. Martin of Frederick and David F. Zepp of Hampstead; grandchildren Jennifer M. Altman (Joshua) of Clarksburg, Laura M. Gonciarz (Andrew) of Frederick and Emily Martin of Frederick; great-grandchildren Bryan Altman, Michael Altman, Sydney Gonciarz and Chance Gonciarz; also survived by nieces and nephews; and longtime best friend Marianne Ellison of Westminster.

She was predeceased by her children Steven Zepp and Venetia Ruby; siblings Dorothy Shipley, David “Bud” Clingan, Rosalie “Bowie” Peeling and James W. Clingan; and son-in-law George J. Martin.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster, MD. Prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to St. John Catholic Church.
