Lyle Walton Mathews, 80, of Union Bridge, died Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Carroll Hospital Center. Born December 18, 1941 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Lyle Ellis and Ruth Kathleen (Frye) Mathews. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Lee (Reynolds) Mathews.
Before retiring he worked as a Mechanic for Baltimore City for 40 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1381, Littlestown Eagles, and the Early Ford V8 Club of America. He was a classic car collector and enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most of all spending time with his family. He was a kind soul, friend to many, and loved by all who knew him.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son Bart Mathews and wife Kathryn (Ford) of Union Bridge; a sister Louise (Mathews) Henry and husband David of Baltimore; grandchildren Kristina (Mathews) Harvey and husband Craig of Littlestown, PA and Mitchell Mathews and wife Emily of Hampstead, and Mary Rebecca “Becca” Mathews of Colorado; great-grandsons Dale and Dace Harvey of Littlestown, PA; sister-in-law Linda (Chalk) Mathews; nieces and nephews Julie Strickland, Tony Bibb, Ronald Mathews, Michael Mathews, and Augusta Mathews; and many grandnieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son Lyle Walton Mathews, Jr. and a brother Ronald Carl Mathews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, Maryland.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lorraine Park Cemetery, 5608 Dogwood Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21207.
