Martha Virginia Buchman Brauning, 95, of Finksburg died on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Bethania Assisted Living in Westminster. Born February 18, 1930 in Hampstead, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Etta M. Bankard Buchman and Raymond P. Buchman. She was predeceased by her husband Gary Richard Brauning, Sr. who died April 17, 2019.

She graduated from Hampstead High School in 1947 and Western Maryland College in 1951. She went on to teach at Hampstead Elementary School for 2 years followed by substitute work. She married the love of her life in 1952. She was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, a member of Carroll County Farm Bureau, Carroll County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and Carroll Central Farm Bureau Planning Group, and a member of Carroll County General Hospital Auxiliary.

She loved farming, preserving fruits and vegetables, walking, reading, dogs, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her 4 children Gary R. Brauning II and wife Kate, Gail Evans and husband Neil, Jane Hoffman and husband Jeff and Guy R. Brauning and wife Jeannie, all of Finksburg; also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law David L. Brauning, Sr. and wife Libby of Finksburg.

She was predeceased by brothers Robert Eugene Buchman and Raymond Charles Buchman; sister Etta Ruth Heird and brother-in-law Jesse Heird of Hampstead, and sister-in-law Jean Walker Buchman. She was also predeceased by brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s Horace “Bud” Brauning and wife Peggy, Fay Lynch and husband Dick.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. 

Friends may also call on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3939 Gamber Rd., Finksburg, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Beth Hutton officiating.  Interment will be held at Providence Cemetery.
