Mary Ditman Herbert, 101, of Westminster, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Carroll Lutheran Village. Born May 8, 1919 in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late George M. Ditman and Sadie E. Bollinger Ditman. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Wade H. Herbert who died on March 14, 1974.
Before retiring, she worked with her husband in their business Wades Office Machine and repair shop and also worked at Random House for many years. A lifelong resident of Westminster, Mary was a member of Deer Park United Methodist Church of Smallwood and the Westminster Lions Club, as well as the Westminster Motor Coop. She was an avid musician, playing in the Arbaugh Orchestra, Mary played the saxophone, piano and organ. She was a talented artist using acrylic and oil paints, watercolors, colored pencils, pen and ink. She enjoyed crocheting, using her talents to make blankets for Project Linus, golfing, camping, walking and has traveled exploring all the United States and Internationally.
She is survived by granddaughter Doris (Dodi) Ritz and her husband Herb Ritz of Manchester, MD; nephews Dean Ditman and wife Joan McInerney-Ditman of Westminster; Wayne Ditman and wife Carol of Westminster, Gary Freyman of Nevada and a niece Nancy Freyman of Baltimore; step-son James Herbert of Tenino, WA; as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Freyman and brother George Ditman.
Interment will be private at Deer Park Cemetery.
