Mary Loretta Hughes, 88, of Hampstead, died peacefully in her home on Monday, August 5, 2024.
Mary was born on March 12, 1936, in Bakersville, NC to late parents Edward and Rosa Garland. She was the loving wife of the late Clyde Hughes with whom she shared 68 years of her life until his passing in 2019. Mary retired from Black and Decker. After retirement, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, and spending time with loved ones. She was a member of the Golden Age Singers Choir Group in North Carolina.
Mary is the beloved mother of 4 children, Wanda Jones, Rose Edmondson, Kenneth Hughes, and Linda Nelson; grandmother of 10; great grandmother of 15; and great great grandmother of 4. She will be joining her six brothers, Eddie, Richard, Bill, Oliver, Robert, and Roy Garland; and four sisters, Mae Fowler, Ruby Feathers, Lucy Hughes and Sue Ella Johnson; and two grandchildren Michael Brothers and Joshua Jones.
Interment will be at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owing Mills, MD alongside her husband.
