May Carnegie

Helen Mary Brougham Edgar Carnegie peacefully passed away at her home on Monday, August 16, 2021 with her family by her side. May was born on June 10, 1924 in Arbroath, Bonnie Scotland to her loving mum, the late Agnes Edgar.  May spent her young adult life in her beautiful Scottish homeland where she went to school and worked as a secretary. May met the Scottish love of her life, Richard Kelly Carnegie, and then in 1948, emigrated to Canada where they were married before finally settling in Baltimore Maryland.  May was so very proud of becoming a U.S. citizen in 1960.

May was employed at Random House for over 15 years and Walmart in Westminster.  She was known among her family as the “Scottish Queen”.  She loved to dance, well into her 90’s, and was always the life of the party.

 Her love of the Baltimore Orioles was unparalleled!

She was the very loved and adored mom to 5 children; Diana (Len) Davis; Rick (Kathy) Carnegie III; Scott (Steph) Carnegie; Kevin Carnegie; Jeanine (Billy) Chaffman.

May was a doting grandmom to her brood of 12 grand kids and their families; Mindi & Matt Nader, RC and Jenn Carnegie, Alex and Ashley Carnegie, Scott Carnegie, Jr., Lauren and Ian Swensen, Lindsey and Dylan Murphy, Justin and Kerri Davis, Ross and Brooke Davis, Brett and Michelle Chaffman, Taylor Chaffman, Zack and Maggie Carnegie, Tiffany Carnegie, and step-grandchildren Darren and Sheri Davis and Brad and Corey Baker. 22 great grand kids; London, Ella, Lily, Lila, Lucy, Paisley, Richard (V), Daniel, Kori Lynn, Haylee Mae, Elizabeth, Jesse, Brennan, Reid, Laine, Sawyer, Rhett, Aubree, Preslee May, Xavier, Amayah, and Lanaeya.  May was also survived by her sister Mary McGrorty.  She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard (Dick) Carnegie in 1982, her mom, Agnes, sister Diana Shiel and brother Jack Gibson.

She will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.

The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, MD.  Orioles attire is encouraged.  Donations can be made to Bridging Life Carroll Hospice.
