Melvin “Mel” DeWitt Bair, Jr., 81, of Westminster, MD., died on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Autumn Lake at Longview. Born September 15, 1944, he was the son of the late Margaret Louise Haines Bair. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years and high school sweetheart, Norma J. Hann Bair.
Melvin graduated from Westminster High School in 1962. Before retiring he worked at the Westminster Post Office as a Postal Clerk for 46 years. He was a member of the Carroll County Senior Men’s Softball Gray Team. He enjoyed motorcycle rides and playing cards with his friends, racquetball, golf, bowling, watching the Orioles and Ravens and attending Dream week-Oriole fantasy baseball at camp in Florida. Melvin enjoyed going to Hershey Park and watching airplanes take off and land with his nephew Tanner. He was a hard worker all his life and a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Melvin helped care for his 2 younger brothers. He faced every new challenge with dignity and determination.
Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Amy J. Bair (Mo Brown) of Westminster, MD.; brother Wayne D. Bair (Debbie) of Selbyville, DE and Dennis H. Bair (Donna) of Hampstead, MD.; 3 nephews Andy Bair, Stephen Bair and Tanner Bair; one niece Maggie Bair; 6 great- nieces and nephews Sophie, Michael, Tori, Jake, Luke and Grace.
