Michael Robert Chester

Michael Robert Chester, Esq., of Cambridge, Maryland, formerly Westminster, died unexpectedly at his home on August 7, 2023. Born August 8, 1970, in Englewood, New Jersey, he was the beloved son of Carolyn Chester and the late Robert Chester, of Westminster, Maryland.

He loved wrestling in his youth and was a member of the Calvert Hall College Wrestling team. He graduated from Calvert Hall College High School of Towson, Maryland in 1989. Michael went on to receive his Political Science degree from American University in Washington, D.C. During his time at American University, he did a semester abroad in London and was an intern for a member of Parliament. It was a formative experience for him. While in London, he enjoyed traveling the British Isles, the history of which he knew so well.

Michael returned to American University and interned in the office of Senator Ted Kennedy, and graduated with a degree in Political Science. He continued on to the University of Baltimore School of Law. After graduating, he worked in the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s office as Assistant State's Attorney in the Child Support Division. Michael then continued to work for the Child Support Division in Baltimore City for a short time, then moved to Cambridge to continue to work as an Assistant Attorney General for Dorchester County Office of Child Support. He worked with diligence and compassion for the children and families of the county.

Michael was an avid runner at one time and ran a marathon in Berlin, Germany, as well as other running events in the U.S. He was also an avid reader, reading through the World Book Encyclopedias as a child, which served him well at Trivia nights. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and always enjoyed hearing about the exploits of his nephew and nieces. He was a gentle and kind soul, who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his mother, Michael is survived by his sister Katherine Chester of Westminster, sister Mary Megan of Carbondale, Co., sister and brother-in-law Ellen Chester Robb and Steve Robb of Westminster, nephew Tristan John Robb of Daytona Beach, Fl., and nieces Sara Corinne and Caroline Mary Robb of Westminster, Md., and extended family including aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 13, 2023 from 1 to 4 p.m. and Monday, August 14, 2023 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention AFSP.org.
